Choir Faces Blistering Heat to Sing at Caldicot Castle

In the blistering heat of a Sunday 13th July afternoon, resplendent in their new Summer shirts, the choristers of Caldicot Male Voice Choir were pleased to open the Caldicot Summer Fayre in the parched grounds of picturesque Caldicot Castle following an introduction by Steve Drowley, host for the afternoon.

Conducted by Musical Director Sian Hatton and accompanied by Olivia Dance, the choir opened with favourite ‘Cwm Rhondda’, rousing ‘Stout Hearted Men’,   Leonard Cohen’s  ‘Hallelujah’, the premiere public performance of ‘Days’ written by Ray Davies and recorded in 1968 by The Kinks.  The choir also included ‘16 Tons’ originally recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford and ‘This is the Moment’ from the musical Jekyll and Hyde.

Following the performance, to surprised and delighted choristers, the Mayor of Caldicot, Councillor Maxine Mitchell presented the Dave Evans memorial shield to the choir in deserved recognition of its significant contribution and service to the Caldicot community over many years.

Following the engraving and formal presentation, the shield will be given pride of place in the choir’s trophy cabinet at the Choir Hall.
