Following on from the successful completion of the 55 mile Taff Trail in 2012, The ten original choir members were joined by another 30 supporters of the choir and this group formed the basis of a newly formed Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club CMCCC.
Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club has since had five years of activities with local rides of up to 30 miles, including sponsored rides from Brecon to Caldicot to raise funds for the Victims of Chernobyl Children’s Fund in July 2013, a 3 day ride from Fishguard to Caldicot to raise funds for Prostate Cymru in July 2014. In July 2015 the club took on a marathon 220 mile ride over 3 days following the River Severn from its source near Llanidloes to Caldicot to raise money for Sparkle and to buy a special bed for local toddler Annalese Gosling and last year a made a sponsored ride from Hay on Wye to Caldicot to help the South East Wales branch of the Motor Neurone Association.
This year the club is supporting the Severn View Open Doors Project which in conjunction with the Dementia Association aims to provide a garden in Chepstow which can be enjoyed by sufferers of dementia. In all, together with the Choir’s Golf society and with huge support from the Choir, over £33000 has been raised for these charities.
A popular Annual event is the Endurance ride around Redwick where participants try to complete as many 2 mile circuits of Redwick within an 8 hour period which also raises funds for the chosen charity. The next one is on May 21st starting at the Rose Inn, Redwick at 8-00am.
With assistance from our generous sponsors the members have also been provided with a colourful, distinctive cycle kit to be worn on all events.
Keen cyclist, John Griffiths AM is the club’s Patron. John has long been a supporter of our Choir and is regularly seen at our concerts in Caldicot.
