Wonderful Annual Concert at the Choir Hall on April 11th 2025

Once again Caldicot Male Voice Choir’s Annual concert returned to entertain a packed choir hall on Friday 11th April. The audience included about thirty vice presidents who by generous contributions support the choir each year.

With local guest artiste mezzo soprano Kayleigh Hallworth and flautist Nigel Keen the enthusiastic audience were treated to a fabulous show of music ranging from Welsh Hymns, to pop, folk, spirituals, show stoppers and jazz.

Conducted by Musical Director Sian Hatton and Assistant MD Shirley Anne James and accompanied by Olivia Dance and John Nicholson the choir presented a total of twenty varied items including favourites ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘A Miner’s Song’, ‘Rachie’, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘The Prayer’ partly in Italian and a new arrangement by choir accompanist John Nicholson of the Flying Picket’s hit ‘Only You’.

In two spots, the first accompanied by Oliva Dance, Kayleigh’s presentation included the Bob Dylan hit ‘Make You Feel My Love’, often sung by the choir, ‘The Hills are Alive’ from the Sound of Music and beautifully presented ‘On my Own’ from Les Miserables’.

Kayleigh’s first half performance was followed by chorister Nigel Keen playing ‘Nocturne’ by Geraldine Green on his flute. Nigel first performed this at the recent choir concert in Carrickfergus.

Following the concert the presentations were made to the music team but in addition Kayleigh was presented with a hand-made slate plaque bearing the choir badge and the Welsh Dragon. A special lapel badge and certificate were also presented to bass chorister Gareth Thomas to mark his completion of 25 years continuous service with the choir. The choir was also pleased to welcome the family of the late chorister, Bill Nash; son Andrew, wife Eileen and daughters Sharon and Anne.

Everyone agreed that this was one of the best performed concerts in recent years and all are looking forward to the Gala concert in September with the Hereford Police Male Voice Choir.

Many thanks to Colleen Gauntlett for taking the photographs and for videoing the entire concert.
