Saturday 7th September saw a unique concert at Caldicot Male Voice Choir Hall when Caldicot Male Voice Choir shared the stage with invited Bois Goetre-Hen Male Choir from Bridgend.
Caldicot Male Voice Choir, opening with ‘African Prayer’ presented a wide range of items in its 18 song programme including favourites ‘Bring Him Home’ and ‘This is the Moment’ from West End shows.
Conducted by Musical Director Sian Hatton and Assistant Musical Director Shirley Anne James, accompanied by Olivia Dance and John Nicholson the choir also premiered new items ‘There is Nothing like a Dame’ from South Pacific featuring second tenor Andy Friedman as soloist, the Ryan Davies song ‘Pan Fo’r Nos yn HIr’, spirituals ‘Every Time I Feel the Spirit’ and ‘Give me that Ol’ Time Religion’.
Formed as recently as 2009 Bois Goetre Hen Male Choir are proud to sing items with a different Male Choir twist and it certainly showed this by presenting among others, various songs arranged by Musical Director Dale Evans and accompanied by Bethan Thomas, which included ‘Adre’ and an amazing ‘George Ezra Medley’ featuring ’I’ll be Riding Shot Gun’. The second performance included unusually for a male voice choir, ‘Since You Been Gone’ and ‘You Are the Reason’.
Conducted by Sian Hatton, both choirs combined on stage to sing ‘Anfonaf Angel’ and the hymn ‘Gwahoddiad’, greatly appreciated by the full house audience.
The concert ended with the presentation by Caldicot’s chairman Graham Hughes of a hand-made, framed slate plaque to Bois Goetre Hen chairman Carl Waters who reciprocated with the gift of a newly designed choir tie before the singing of the National anthem ‘Hen Wlad fy Nhadau’.
