Following an invitation to chorister Nick Dance in April from the Wendover Arms in High Wycombe, the Caldicot Male Voice Choir was pleased to accept and sang at the superb location on August Bank Holiday Monday 26th August at a Car Festival Show held at the hotel.
Following a long journey by coach the choir set up and in no time at all the 24 choristers were underway with some of their best-known and favourite songs. The performance was conducted by Musical Director Siȃn Hatton and Assistant Musical Director Shirley-Anne James and accompanied by Olivia Dance.
All choristers are dedicated to the choir; an example demonstrated by top tenor Rob Stallard, in that he drove himself from Rogiet as he had to leave early for work that evening.
The car show included a collection of some high performance cars and the ladies of the music team were taken on a high-speed trip where Shirley-Anne took a while to recover, ‘never again’ was expressed. One classic car, a 1958 Morris Minor was driven to the show from South Oxfordshire. After welcome refreshments, the choir gave a second outdoor performance.
A couple who have been following the choir at practices and concerts were also in the appreciative audience and stayed for the early evening Afterglow. Choir chairman, Graham Hughes recognised their following and said a few words of thanks and appreciation to them and to the hosts.
The day was hosted and sponsored by the landlord, Shaf Dad with a Barbecue for all in attendance, administered by Chef Dwayne and his wife. The BBQ was still running when the choir left to make the long journey home at 18:45pm.The trip ran smoothly and was appreciated by all; luckily the weather was good. Friends of the Wendover look forward to a future return by CMVC. Write up and photos provided by Nick Dance.
