Choir sings at Caerleon Festival

After a wait of two years, Caldicot Male Voice Choir was finally able to take part in the Caerleon Festival at 6-15pm on the 1st July at the historic Roman Amphitheatre prior to the performance of a Midsummer Night’s Dream by The Festival Players International.

Despite M4 Motorway delays and fears of inclement weather, it turned out to be a glorious sunny evening when about 200 turned up prior to the Shakespeare play to hear the Choir sing.

Conducted by Sian Hatton and Shirley Anne James and accompanied by Stephen Berry and John Nicholson, the choir entertained the audience with a range of its favourites including Cwm Rhondda, Anfonaf Angel, Y Darlun, Rachie and included in public for the first time ’76 Trombones’ from the musical The Music Man.

It was a pleasure to meet up with soprano soloist Holly Holyoake who has sung several times with the choir in the past from the age of 14. Holly recently emigrated to Australia and was visiting her home town of Caldicot.

The Choir is emerging with great success from the effects of Covid restrictions and invites men over the age of 18 to join its ranks. Please visit the Choir Hall in Mill Lane, Caldicot on any Monday or Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm. You will be made very welcome.
