Quiz Night for Choir Charities

Quiz Night 2015

Following the success of the past two Quiz Nights we’ve held at the Choir Hall, we are pleased to announce that we are holding another one on 30th January.  Doors open at 7-00pm and we’ll start the Quiz at about 7-30pm.  Please pay at the door at £2 per person and teams of up to eight are allowed (no larger, please).  Please do not bring your own alcoholic drinks to the hall (prices in the choir hall bar are cheaper than you’ll get outside anyway) but bring your own snacks etc.   The bar will remain open following the quiz if required and be prepared for a raffle.  Last year the event raised about £400, let’s see if we can do better this year.

The Choir’s charity events for this year are being organised to raise enough to buy a new specialised bed for Annalese Gosling, a local four year old suffering from FOPS.  This is estimated to cost £4500 and will be of great benefit to Annalese since she is out growing her old bed.  We are also supporting Newport based charity ‘Sparkle’ part of which raises money to supply much needed specialised equipment to help disabled children all over Newport and Monmouthshire and we hope to raise a similar amount of £4500 for this deserving cause.

Lyn Gauntlett will once again be asking the questions in his own inimitable style but be warned if anyone calls him ‘Bamber’ again he’ll draw his questions from the University Challenge Quiz Book – how’s that for a starter for ten!  If anyone calls him ‘The Beast’ from Chaser, he might not turn up – be warned Tony.

Further events to raise money for these two deserving causes include a St David’s Day Concert at the Choir Hall, an endurance cycle ride around Redwick, an epic 210 mile cycle ride over 3 days from the source of the Severn near Llanidloes, through Shrewsbury and Kidderminster and on to Caldicot, a Golf tournament at the St Pierre Resort and a table top sale in November.  Please give the Choir, it’s associated Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club and Birdie Boys Golf Society your full support over the coming year.  Keep looking at our web site for more details.

Fund raising for Prostate Cymru has now been completed and although we are a little disappointed that we did not achieve our target of £10,000 nevertheless all the events held last year still raised a staggering £8000 for the charity, about £5000 coming from the Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club ride from Fishguard to Caldicot in July.  A presentation will be made to representatives of Prostate Cymru on Monday, January 26th during the break in practice at the Choir Hall.
