Ken Gibbs Given Lifetime Achievement Award

Alongside his wife and family, long serving second tenor, chorister Ken Gibbs was thrilled to receive a well deserved Lifetime Achievement Award and elected as an Honorary Vice President on November 27th 2014 at his son’s restaurant, The Woodlands Tavern in Llanfair Discoed on 27th November in front of over 40 choristers who gave him a well deserved round of applause.  Many memories were stretched to pay tribute to over forty years of Ken’s loyal service to our Choir and choral singing in general.

Ken Gibbs Lifetime Award

Singing in the completely full upstairs function room, the choir sang through the programme rehearsed for the Millennium Stadium event to follow two days later, including Men of Harlech and Sospan Fach.  Many other songs were also performed such as ‘Somewhere Out There’.  In all the choir sang two twenty minute spots. Chairman Mark Stocker presented Ken with the award at the mid-point of the performance.

Tickets were sold for the choir’s performance and we are delighted that over £400 was raised for the Noah’s Ark Appeal.

This award has been recently introduced to pay tribute to long serving and deserving choristers who have not only given their time to sing with us but have also contributed substantially to the organisation and social life of the choir.  Past recipients have been John Callow and Bill Nash who were awarded this tribute at last year’s Annual Concert.  Incidentally, Bill celebrated his 92nd birthday on January 9th 2015 and he still regularly attends practice every Monday and Thursday evenings.  May this continue for many years to come, Bill
