We all appreciate that the Choir’s associated cycle club, Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club does a fabulous job in promoting our Choir through its activities, fun bike rides and charity events. In addition to the twelve or so choristers who are members of the club, events also include up to another thirty or forty guests who are not choristers but who further promote and support the choir.
However, the club has been limited to local, circular rides around the south of the county because it had no means of transporting the bikes. Through the generosity of several sponsors and manufacture by J & W Fabrication and Welding Services. who gave up their time and resources free of charge to build it for us, the Cycle Club now has a purpose built trailer to carry 16 bikes. This trailer has financially cost the choir absolutely nothing (commercially similar trailers cost about £2,500), but a tremendous amount of work has been done by a couple of choristers and choir supporters to achieve a fabulous result! So what’s new, you may ask?
Well, you may not have known that in a similar way to registering a new car, trailers have to be registered in the same way, they have to be insured and they have to be inspected for compliance with current regulations. We are grateful to Peter Williams for painfully filling out all the forms and for taking the trailer, with Leon Jones to Cardiff for its initial road worthiness test (equivalent to an MOT). We are glad to report that it passed and with full insurance can now legally take to the road.
The Cycle Club can now spread the word of our choir further and wider than ever before and plans are already under way to take the bikes to Royal Tunbridge Wells for the 230 mile ride back to Caldicot to help raise funds for local girls Annalese and Imogen, our nominated charities for 2015. In addition to those displayed in the photo, banners have also been designed and produced which further advertises and promotes the choir. We mustn’t forget that the Cycle Club was instrumental in securing a colourful gazebo carrying the Choir’s badge which again, through sponsorship cost the Choir very little.
Together with the Birdie Boys Golf, our two associated sport and social clubs are two wonderful assets which have no doubt significantly raised awareness of our choir for all our benefit and deserve to be fully supported by us all.
