The Choir is always pleased to invite a local Primary School to sing a few carols at the Choir Hall every Christmas time. On 5th December it was the turn of Durand Road Primary School and twelve pupils joined in a delightful period of Christmas songs together with their friends and families and head teacher Mrs Kilbourn. Numbers were unfortunately reduced due to a dreaded chest bug going around.
The choristers, conducted by Sian Hatton and accompanied by John Nicholson and Olivia Dance, all dressed in festive jumpers and hats, opened proceeding with a resounding chorus of ‘Joy to the World’, ‘When a Child is Born’ and ‘Silver Bells’ to be followed by the delightful singing of the children who presented ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Feliz Navidad’ (Merry Christmas) and ‘Silent Night’ accompanied on guitar by teacher Will Marangan.
The choir continued with ‘The Drum Carol (The Little Drummer Boy), favourite God Rest You Merry Gentlemen’ and finalised with the humorous ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ relating what really happened to the pear tree, partridge and other Christmas gifts.
To end the evening the children joined the choir on stage to give a memorable presentation of ‘Little Town of Bethlehem’. Everyone left knowing that they had been presented with a cheery, wonderful evening of Christmas songs before departing to a cold, wet evening outside.
