Choir Performs at Kenn Road Methodist Church, Clevedon

At the request of Rev. Preben Andersen, the former minister of Caldicot Methodist Church before his retirement to Clevedon, Caldicot Male Voice Choir was delighted to perform a concert at the Kenn Road Methodist Church, Clevedon to a full house of an appreciative and enthusiastic audience on Saturday June 1st.

Conducted by Musical Director Siȃn Hatton and Assistant Musical Director Shirley-Anne James and accompanied by Olivia Dance and John Nicholson, the choir presented a total of 18 pieces including a wide range of songs opening with the famous Welsh Hymn ‘Rachie’ and spirituals ‘Ride the Chariot’ and ‘Every time I Feel the Spirit’. Favourites included ‘Anfonaf Angel’, ‘The Prayer’ written originally for Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli and sang partly in Italian; songs from the shows including ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘76 Trombones’ and ‘Bring Him Home’. Other pieces included contrasting ‘16 Tons’ with ‘A Miner’s Song’, ‘O Gymru’, ‘Gwahoddiad’, Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’, fittingly ‘May You Always Have a Song’ and finalising with ‘World in Union’.

The audience was thrilled and amazed with the skilful playing by accompanist Olivia Dance making her debut as a solo artiste alongside the choir. Her performance included renditions of Gershwin’s ‘The Man I Love’, tangos by Argentinian composers ‘Gardel, ‘Por Una Cabeza’, Piazzolla- ‘Tardecita Pampeana’ and ‘Invierno Porteño’ and Chopin’s ‘Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Op. post’.

Olivia’s performance during part two of the concert included Peter Maxwell-Davies’s ‘Farewell to Stromness’, Ro Hancock-Child’s ‘Argonaut’, Gershwin’s ‘A Foggy Day in London Town’ and Irving Berlin’s ‘Cheek to Cheek’ finalizing with Waltz Finale written by Madeleine Dring.

The concert, the largest event at the Church for many years raised over £700 for the work of the church. The choir received many complimentary accolades from those present with the request that the choir returns again.
