Yet another special birthday celebration took place at Caldicot Choir Hall on the 16th of January. This time two Caldicot Male Voice choristers, David Kirton and Peter Hanks shared the same 80th birthday.
At Peter’s suggestion, to reciprocate David’s contribution at an earlier birthday of his before the pandemic restrictions, chorister’s wife Colleen Gauntlett was asked to bake a special cake to be shared with all the choristers at choir practice to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Embellished with a photograph of Peter and David,taken at a concert at the Tafarn Iscoed in Underwood, the eagerly devoured, raspberry flavoured, triple layered and iced sponge cake was greatly appreciated by the choristers with barely a crumb or piece of icing remaining. Many returned for seconds and asked for a piece to be taken home for their wives.
Both Peter and David were presented with a framed photograph of them both to commemorate the occasion. The photograph on the cake was eaten – made of rice paper and printed with edible food colouring.
