It was only a few months ago that 19 year-olds Sam Atkins and Liam Evans walked into the choir hall after hearing us at an afterglow in Chepstow in May and decided to try a bit of choral singing with us. At about the same time Harry Giblin also came in and decided to give it a try. They were all classed as baritones on their first voice test and we are delighted that they have become regular attendees at practices ever since, so much so that they all decided that they were ready to take their second voice test early.
Since Musical Director, Siân Hatton is on holiday and not to delay things while they were so keen, assistant musical director Shirley Anne James and accompanist Stephen Berry decided that they would listen to them in the back room to assess that they had all grasped the fundamental principles of singing in a choir. They all individually sang ‘California Dreamin’ a new piece that we are all learning and we are delighted that both Shirley Anne and Stephen agreed that all three met all the requirements needed to join our choir.
Congratulations to Sam, Liam and Harry on passing your second voice test and you are now eligible to wear the choir uniforms and to sing in concerts. The next one is in Devon on August 1st and we all look forward to seeing you there. The introduction of Liam and Sam has significantly lowered the average age of the choir, individual ages of which now ranges from 19 to 93.
