The Choir is extremely fortunate that we have a highly talented and loyal Musical team who pull together to ensure we belong to a choir to be proud of.
Musical Director Siân and her husband Dai had arranged to visit Australia in February and March for 3 weeks so what were we to do? We needn’t have worried.
Up stepped Shirley Anne James, our Assistant Musical Director to the podium and though nervous at first, she led us through all the practices while Siân was away. Hard work this with the Annual Concert coming up, she nevertheless ran part practices and took us through whole numbers of our busy programme.
On top of all this we had a wedding to go in Clearwell Castle, our St David’s Day Concert in the Choir Hall on March 1st to be followed by a joint concert with Cirencester Male Voice Choir on March 7th in which Shirley Anne conducted both choirs in singing Speed Your Journey. Three events in three weeks! Ably supported by accompanists Stephen Berry and John Nicholson who were also there throughout, Shirley Anne took the choir through at least eighteen pieces, not counting Nidaros and others to be rehearsed for the Annual concert.
