It was with great delight that we learned that recent recruit David Woolnough went into the back room with Siân to take his 2nd voice test. Supported by fellow 2nd tenor Mike Thurman he bravely sang a part of Nidaros and emerged to the announcement that he had passed his 2nd voice test and is now eligible to sing in concerts. Dave came along in early December and his willingness to learn and his involvement in a number of activities has rapidly assimilated him into the ranks. Well done Dave and welcome as a fully fledged member of our Choir.
Following his recent arrival, baritone Andrew McDonnell also went into the back room for his second voice test. Siân told us he sang extracts from Nidaros without a copy and passed the test. This must be a first. Well done Andy and welcome. Let it be known that we do not routinely expect choristers to sing a part of Nidaros as a condition of getting into the choir.
We were also delighted that in walked Rob Baldwin to visit us, introduced by Nigel Antell and took his first voice test. He was proclaimed by Siân to be another 2nd tenor. It is well recognised that the 2nd tenor section is the weakest of the four due to ill health of a few in the section (I’m sure they won’t mind me saying that) and we are thrilled that more are coming in to swell the ranks.
