Throughout its 52 year history Caldicot Male Voice Choir has always been proud of its tradition to fund-raise for many charities and worthwhile organisations, locally, nationally and internationally.  Last year the choir raised £8000 to help Prostate Cymru as well as over £1000 for The Teenage Cancer Trust. In 2013 over £6500 was raised to help local charity ‘The Victims of Chernobyl Childrens’ Trust.  In addition almost all our concerts away from home have raised funds for many good causes.  The exact amounts are unknown but in current terms we are sure to have raised many hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years.

This year is no exception to our proud tradition and the Choir is, once again putting its resources, including those of its associated Cycle Club, Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club and Golf Society, the Birdie Boys to raise funds for Sparkle, a Newport charity based at the Serennu Centre in High Cross.  This charity provides additional, essential support to children in Monmouthshire, Newport and parts of Torfaen who are suffering from severe disabilities and for those with learning or behavioural issues such as autism. The work of this voluntary charity enables and encourages those with difficulties to lead a more rewarding life.

Last year we were also pleased to help Caldicot youngster Annalese Gosling’s charity appeal, the Friends of Oliver which seeks a cure for the extremely rare genetic disease, FOP  (fibrodyspasia osssifans progressiva). This disease causes damaged soft tissue to re-grow as bone. Sufferers are slowly imprisoned by their own skeletons made worse by even minor injuries or surgery.  The Choir felt that this year more direct support for Annalese was needed and we are trying to raise the £4500 cost for a new, specialised bed since she will soon outgrow her present one.

The people of Caldicot and the surrounding area, together with the choristers themselves are well known for their support of charities as shown by their long term commitment to our Choir.  We are confident that everyone will do their best to help us in our appeal.

Thank you for your support and we are sure you will enjoy our concert.
