At practice last night, the door opened and in walked a complete stranger who, after introductions sat down to listen to us. At the interval he approached Siân and asked to take his first voice test. Keen or what?
He emerged just a few minutes later and was announced that he can indeed sing and that he’s a top tenor!
It seems that Dylan Balgobin had just moved to Caldicot from Bristol , saw the notice board outside the building and walked in. A keen and experienced singer who can read music and is learning Welsh is just the sort of chorister we need, said Siân. His wife Nicola is a fluent Welsh speaker as well. On passing his initial voice test he took his place in the top tenors next to Jeff Williams and with his experience it won’t be too long before he becomes a full member of the choir. You are very welcome, Dylan.
We must be doing something right because Dylan is the 22nd recruit in 18 months, mainly tenors. Not many choirs can say that! Even more rewarding is that only one of those has since left the choir.
We are always ready to welcome new recruits to our choir, so if you would like to have a rewarding and challenging new hobby that helps many charities throughout the country and locally, why not come along to a practice, just as Dylan did and have a listen to us. There’s no obligation and you don’t need to be a wonderful singer, speak Welsh or even read music.
