From research of the Choir archives (kept by Ron Palmer), accompanist Stephen Berry determined that the first ever major concert held by the choir was held on October 12th 1964 at the Methodist Church in Caldicot.
To celebrate this significant and momentous anniversary, a concert has long been arranged on the nearest date possible, which is tomorrow 11th October at 7-30pm. The concert is also in aid of the Christian charity, Prospects UK which provides support for over 3,000 people with learning difficulties to lead independent lives. We are delighted that the UK Director of Mission for the charity, Mr Peter Winmill and his wife Christine have travelled a long way to be with us on this occasion.
Rev. Preben Andersen, minister at the church, has agreed to be compère for the evening and local, talented harpist, John Thomas will be supporting the choir with two slots in the concert. John is well known for having provided harp music to many events locally, including performing as regular harpist at medieval banquets in Caldicot castle for over 40 years.
The local Caldicot population is looking forward to a fabulous concert and I hope that as many choristers as possible will attend to make this a truly wonderful event for the church, the charity and the town.
