Roy Jones receives well deserved Lifetime Achievement award

On Thursday 6th April, during a break in rehearsals for its Annual Concert, Caldicot Male Voice Choir was delighted to be visited by long standing chorister Roy Jones. Roy has unfortunately been ill for a while but he hopes to rejoin us as soon as possible.

His visit enabled Musical Director Sian Hatton and Choir chairman Mark Stocker to make a well deserved presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award certificate.and confer an Honorary Vice-presidency on Roy in front of the whole Choir who spontaneously gave him an unsolicited standing ovation as a further tribute to his service.

Roy is a highly respected and well liked bass chorister and is married to Diane. Diane found a diary which confirmed that he joined the choir in 1977. Forty years continuous membership is an attestation of his dedication, loyalty and unbounded enthusiasm for the choir. As a natural Welsh speaker, Roy has been a huge asset in helping the choir with ensuring our Welsh diction and pronunciation is up to a very high standard.

An ex train driver he has also worked at Llanwern steelworks and Sudbrook pumping station. A past hobby has been working as a volunteer at Coleford helping to rebuild steam trains and he is well known locally as a gifted maker of walking sticks, many provided to other choristers.

Roy is quoted as saying ‘I really didn’t expect this, it’s such an honour and I am determined to get back to singing with you soon’

Congratulations to Roy for being the recipient of this prestigious award, a gift from the the choristers of Caldicot Male Voice Choir in recognition of his devoted service to Welsh Male Voice singing and we all look forwrd to you singing with us again soon.  Llongyfarchiadau a diolch yn fawr, Roy.

We’re keeping your seat warm, Roy.
