It was welcome news that after illness, second tenors Garry Keeble and Ivor Rickards are able to return to practice. We are really glad to see you back. An equally welcome observation is that last night’s practice was attended by 70 choristers making it more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone. Siân’s comments were that it was a real pleasure to be standing in front of so many, long may it continue. With so many new choristers coming through the doors each month (14 in the last year) we could reach a hundred by the end of 2015. What a story that would make.
Set up and administered by choristers Tony Griffiths, Spike Hughes and Lyn Gauntlett and in the face of scepticism from some quarters, our new web-site has defied all criticisms by reaching the milestone of ONE MILLION page turns since it was redesigned only 20 months ago. This translates to an estimated one hundred thousand visits! Currently the site is visited about 3000 times a week and this number is increasing all the time. We don’t know where all these visitors are coming from but we are sure it is having a major impact on taking our choir and our singing to the rest of the world. When we make initial enquiries to organisations or individuals, a major advantage is to be able to point them to our well designed and informative web-site so they can quickly learn more about us. We are confident this is bringing an increased interest and awareness of the things we do. We are sure this is a major influence in initiating not only requests for concerts and appeals from charities but also encourages new members to join us. In days when we hear sad stories of some choirs apparently in decline, it is wonderful news that we are increasing our numbers and hopefully reviving any lacking interest in Welsh Male Voice Choirs generally through our web-site.
The site regularly receives compliments on how informative and well designed it is. The design is under constant review for improvement and we hope you have noticed the changes since it was first set up. We continually strive to keep it up to date with news about our concert and charity activities, choristers, special interests and social events. The web site also has links to our Cycle Club’s own web site and is active on both Facebook and Twitter. We have also a couple of video clips on You-tube and we are considering how we can use this more. We are conscious though, that several members and supporters do not have access to a computer and we are looking at ways at which we can effectively improve our communication with them. Any ideas are always welcome.
