Caldicot Male Voice Choir were invited for the fourth time to sing at the Yemeni Wales Festival at Pill Harriers Rugby Football Club in Newport on August 10th.
Conducted by Sian Hatton and Shirley Anne James and accompanied by Olivia Dance the choir presented a wide range of songs including Rachie, Days, May You Always Have a Song, Hallelujah, Stout Hearted Men, You’ll Never Walk Alone and Sixteen Tons finalising with the Welsh National Anthem.
The Festival, organised by Reggie Al-Haddi and Newport City councillor Debbie Jenkins and attended by Newport East MP Jessica Morden MP is designed to promote how the Yemeni community in Newport is keen to demonstrate its participation, inclusion and acceptance of the local Welsh culture with many activities, including Yemeni music and dancing, several in national Yemeni costume, displays, activities for the many children and a demonstration by St John’s Ambulance. It culminated in a wonderfully colourful parade of children in national Yemeni dress.
The Choir returned to the Rugby club following the festival to entertain club members with a wide range of afterglow singing appreciated by all.
A fabulous sunny afternoon thoroughly enjoyed be everyone. We’re looking forward to performing at the Festival again next year.
