Incredible St David’s Day Concert at Hereford.

On a cold, dark March 7th evening Caldicot Male Voice Choir travelled to Hereford’s magnificent St. Francis Xavier’s Church to sing at the invitation of Hereford Police Male Voice Choir at a joint concert to celebrate St David’s Day,

During a superb performance by both choirs items by Hereford, conducted by Alison Houlbrooke and accompanied by Simon Peberty included favourites in its first half presentation; Calon Lan; Anfonaf Angel; My Lord What a mornin’; Wide Open Spaces; Sunset poem (Eli Jenkins Prayer) finalising with For the Beauty of the Earth which include a solo part by Mike Blisset.

This was followed by an equally enjoyable performance by Caldicot, conducted by Musical Director Sian Hatton and Assistant MD Shirley Anne James and accompanied by Olivia Dance and John Nicholson. Opening with the rousing African Prayer; other items included Bring Him Home; 16 Tons; Y Darlun and Only You.

The two choirs combined to close the first half by singing favourites of all Male Voice Choirs, Morte Criste and Rachie.

Hereford Police Choir opened the second half with an equally enjoyable mix including A Welsh Prayer; All I ask of You; Bob Dylan’s Male you feel my love; There is Nothin’ like a Dame from South Pacific; What would I do Without my Music and finalising with what else A Policeman’s Song.

Caldicot completed its contribution by including Gwahoddiad; Pan f’or Nos yn Hir; Give me that Ol’ time Religion, A Miner’s Song, This the Moment from Jekyll and Hyde and finalising with Welsh favourite O Gymru.

Both Choirs rounded off a superb evening’s example of wonderful male voice singing by combining to sing Cwm Phondda; You’ll Never Walk Alone and finalising with the Welsh National Anthem Hen Wlad fy Nhadau.

The evening ended with a short trip to the Welsh Club in Hereford to a wonderful reception and the climax with a show of Afterglow sing thoroughly enjoyed by choristers and patrons alike.

Both choirs are looking forward to getting together once again at Caldicot’s Gala concert at its choir hall in September.
