Outstanding Concert at the Royal Albert Hall

On the 27th April 2024 after a period of 6 years, Caldicot Male Voice Choir was once again proud to be part of the Festival of Massed Male Voices at the Royal Albert Hall, organised by the Welsh Association of Male Choirs.

The show was compered by Garry Owen and choirs conducted by Dr. Alwyn Humphreys MBE and accompanied by Caradog Williams. Together with over 500 other voices from 23 choirs, including one from Canada, the massed choir entertained and thrilled the audience with a wide selection of songs beginning with pieces from opera including ‘Soldier’s Chorus’, ‘Speed Your Journey’ and ‘A Roman War Song’. These were followed by stirring spirituals including ‘Kwmbayah’ and ‘African Prayer’ and an incredible performance of ‘World in Union’.

Many of the items were also accompanied on the fabulous organ by Huw Tregellis Williams OBE DL. to enrich the already amazing tremendous sound of the Choirs.

The concert also included talented, entertaining and acclaimed guest artistes including cellist Steffan Morris, Parti Llwchwr Ladies Choir from Loughor and wonderful solo tenor Osian Wyn Bowen.

Following a joint rendition of ‘Calon Lan’ with the audience, the choirs continued the programme with Magic of the Musicals including ‘Stout Hearted Men’, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘This is the Moment’ conducted by arranger Huw Rees.  Finalising with the hymns ‘Cwm Rhondda’, ‘Deus Salutis’ and ‘Rachie’, the choirs were pleased to perform an encore of ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ following a standing ovation and prolonged enthusiastic applause.

The audience and choirs left the hall, into the London rain knowing that they had enjoyed an unforgettable experience of male choral singing.
