The Choir’s fund raising campaign to help Annalese buy a new bed and also provide support to Sparkles, a Newport based Charity which supports severly disabled children and those with learning or behavioural problems lead a more rewarding life, got off to a good start with its fun Quiz Night this Friday, the 30th January.
About 60 people turned up, and although this was disappointing after all the hard work that had gone into making the evening a success, the fund was kicked off with £233 being raised on the night.
The questions set by Lyn were once again challenging but nevertheless a good performance was put in by all the teams who entered. The winning team was once again an entry from Sudbrook Cricket Club who scored a massive 66 out of a possible 92 (71%). Even the lowest scoring team got nearly half of the questions right, so it couldn’t have been that difficult, surely. All winning teams were generous enough to donate their winnings back to the charity fund. Many thanks for that, it is really appreciated.
Further events planned for this year include our St David’s Day concert on March 1st at the Choir Hall, an endurance ride around Redwick in April by the Cycle Club, who will also be riding from the source of the Severn to Caldicot in July. A Golf tournament is planned for September at the St Pierre Golf Resort as is a Table Top Sale in November.
Many thanks to Lyn for researching and asking the questions (he got out alive by the back door), to Leon Jones and Tony Griffiths for all the arrangements and the scoring and thanks to Lawrence Rees for selling raffle tickets, to Dave Kirton, Wyn Goodwin and Lee Rees for their work behind the bar and to all those who helped set up the hall and cleared up afterwards.
The Choir hopes that you will give all the support you can to help us raise our target of £10,000 to help both these worthy causes.
