Following all the hype, excitement, hard work and thrills of our 50th Anniversary Concert weekend, it will be good to get back to normal for a while and perform a concert to help a deserving cause.
Last year we were pleased to welcome cricketing legend Sir Ian Botham as he completed one of the legs of his mammoth walk around Britain to raise funds for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Cancer Charity. As he entered the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff, the home of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, he must have been encouraged to hear the refrains of Caldicot Male Voice Choir. Following his welcome and discussions with choristers Jeff Williams and Mark Stocker, we were asked by Sir Ian and the President of the charity if we could perform a concert at the Temple Methodist Church in Taunton. The town is home to the headquarters of Somerset County Cricket Club where SIr Ian played a large part of his cricketing career.
The time has finally arrived and we hope to get as many choristers as possible to Taunton to help this worthwhile charity. Those of you who watched the London Marathon could not have failed to notice how many celebrity runners were running for this cause.
Bus times are on the Members page so please do your best to come to this fabulous church. It really is a great venue. The pictures show the Church in Upper High Street, Taunton and the Cross of the Resurrection inside. The third photo shows Sir Ian with some of the choir in the background.
Glamorgan players Gareth Rees, Captain Mark Wallace and Head Coach Matthew Mott joined Sir Ian Botham for the Cardiff Leg of Beefy’s Great British Walk 2012 which finished at the SWALEC Stadium.
