This year’s Caldicot Mayoral Remembrance Concert will be held on November 11 in aid of the Velindre Cancer Care and Caldicot Royal British Legion.
Mayor, Maria Stevens, says her chosen charity this year is Velindre Cancer Care Hospital which provides cancer care and support across South Wales including Monmouth, Chepstow and Caldicot.
With the date of the concert falling on Armistice Day, she says it was timely to combine support for Velindre with the Legion.
Performing at the concert will be Caldicot Male Voice Choir and the Severn Tunnel Band. It starts at 7:30pm in Caldicot Leisure Centre and tickets are available from Caldicot Post Office, Raffles Dry Cleaners , Town Council offices and through Peter Wilson of Caldicot Royal British Legion – 01633 882772.
Armistice Day concert is in aid of two causes
From the ‘Free Press‘ – 19th October 2011
Caldicot town mayor Cllr Maria Stevens will host the Mayor’s Charity Concert on November 11, in aid of her chosen charities, Velindre Cancer Care and Caldicot’s Royal British Legion.
The event will be held at Caldicot Leisure Centre, starting at 7:30pm, and entertainment for the evening will include Caldicot Male Voice Choir and the Severn Tunnel Band.
Speaking on why she chose Velindre Cancer Care during her mayoral year, Cllr Stevens said: “The hospital is a lifesaving link between patients and families who are going through a very difficult time. I have had members of my family, along with many friends, who have been under the care of the hospital.
“When I visit the hospital, I am so impressed by the commitment, positivity and compassion by everyone. I was told on my last visit that five speciality nurses, one for each cancer department had recently been made redundant and were re-employed by the Velindre Charity. I was appalled by this, so made my fundraising even more important part of my year.”
Cllr Stevens also chose to support the Caldicot RBL, as the charity concert is being held on Armistice Day. Caldicot RBL will therefore be presenting its standard before the concert begins.
Peter Wilson, of the Caldicot RBL, said: “The Royal British Legion is in its 90th year of providing care and support to members of the British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families.”
“With all the recent conflicts we need all the support we can get. We thank the mayor and the people of Caldicot for staging this concert and their support of our very worthy cause.”
Tickets cost £7 (£5 concessions), from Caldicot Post Office, Raffles Dry Cleaners, and the Caldicot Town Council office.
