RACE YOU TO THE BAR!

And they’re off!  Well, nearly. No, it’s not what you think.  Our Annual Race Night to raise funds for the Choir is at the starting post for Friday 22nd March at the Choir Hall.  All tickets have been sold and sponsors are in place.

Stewards are waiting behind the bar to serve refreshments and keep order and tellers are ready to take your stake money.  The horses have been taken out of their caravan tresses, released from their rag and bone carts, rescued from the knackers yard, brought in from Porthcawl beach by Richard and have been out exercising on Caldicot Levels all week.  Many were seen at The Rose in Redwick, The Farmer’s Arms at Goldcliff and the Carpenter’s Arms at Nash.  There were some scary moments when a supermarket van was spotted, but it was just making home deliveries. Our Chairman has been busy all week mending fences.

On top of the horse trading there will be a raffle in which there are some fabulous prizes, not just the sherry and aftershave that weren’t wanted at Christmas (thanks, Dai) but truly great prizes donated by Danny the Donkey Dealer, Caldicot Stables and Fine Meats Emporium, McShane’s Manure and Compost Manufacturer, a pot of Gordon’s Glue, a dozen tins of dog food from Chepstow Canned Meat Products and a signed photo of our new PRO in his choir blazer and Anniversary tie. What more could you ask for?

Seriously though, a lot of hard work, effort and time put in by chorister Ron Powell, assisted by his family and Richard Evans have gone into ensuring this will be a great night.  The Choir would like to thank everyone involved, from sponsors, tickets sales, choristers and supporters for helping out.  All that remains is for you to turn up, (now you’ve bought your tickets), for one of the social highlights of the year, buy the raffle tickets, sponsor more horses, have a good time and collect your winnings.  Please return the donkeys back to Porthcawl before they’re missed, Richard.

Below is a list of the real raffle prizes, left click on the image to enlarge.  Well done Ron for getting all these!   There will also be a Special Prize Tombola which will interest all Rugby fans (and who isn’t after Wales’ great win on Saturday, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is not in our repertoire) of a signed Opsrey’s 2013 Rugby shirt, a signed Welsh Rugby Ball and a signed Welsh Rugby Photo.  Stuart Lancaster’s tear stained handkerchief has been withdrawn.
