On a beautiful Spring day at Wernddu Golf Club, eighteen of the choir’s finest scaled the steep fairways of this upland course, in the shadow of the towering Skirrid mountain.
Thanks to our trusty bus driver Dai ‘Reg Varney’ Kirton, we were delivered to the course in good time, in fact time for a pint before battle commenced.
Our Society Manager, Dai ‘The Guv’nor’ Gould had arranged (he said drew) the golf teams, and six three-balls ventured out on the course.
After 18 gruelling holes, it was a return to the patio for a sit down and a refreshing pint before dinner was served, (ok, bacon baps and chips, and more beer).
The after-match presentation by Dai saw him hand-out useful golf trinkets like balls, tees, gloves etc. to the winners on the day.
The best team was made-up of Tommy Hole, John Wyson and Karl Gregory while the individual winner was Tony Griffiths with 35 points, just two ahead of Keith Swain and Ron Powell on 33 points. Ron also won the nearest the pin on the 14th hole despite having to take a pit-stop on the course. The scratchcard sweep for £15 was won by Richie Llewellyn.
Many thanks to Dai Gould for organising another great day, and any other choristers who would like to attend, we have equipment you can borrow.
