The Choir is extremely proud and excited to be returning to the Royal Albert Hall next year to join in the Festival of Massed Voices. On Sunday 30th April, 32 choristers from the choir gave up their Bank holiday Sunday afternoon to rehearse for this prestigious concert and occasion, considered by many to be the highlight of the year.
Joining about 70 other choristers from Pontnewydd, Beaufort, Blaenavon and Risca the choir assembled at Rogerstone Primary School and were put through their paces by conductor Arwel Humphries and accompanied by our own Stephen Berry who stood in for Caradog Williams on piano.
The choristers have a hard task to learn about twenty new pieces, many arranged by the conductor and we all concentrated hard to perfect arrangements of Anfonaf Angel, Bugeilio’r Gwenith Gwyn, both sung by us at our recent Annual concert, Ar Lan y Mor, Comrades in Arms, With a Voice of Singing, Cwm Rhondda and many more including Stour Hearted Men.
The choirs are about half way through learning the programme and there will be at least two more rehearsals with Alwyn before we undertake this major concert in London.
