The Choir continues to recruit new members on a nearly monthly basis and this week we were pleased that tenor Maurice Penny, who joined us about six weeks ago went into the back room with Siân and after singing about 16 bars of ‘A Miner’s Song’ satisfied her that he was competent and confident enough to join us on stage as a fully fledged member. Normally, new choristers take their second voice tests after three months practice but can do so earlier if they feel confident or have had previous experience. Maurice’s first concert will be the Annual concert on April 8th. No pressure then. However, as an experienced chorister, previously with a mixed choir in Goodrich he knows that several years of practice is still needed to become fully proficient.
After a few weeks of coming over the Choir hall to watch the Six Nations matches, Paul Priest finally, after two years of thinking about it, walked into the Choir Hall to listen to us practice. After a little persuasion and support he, like many before him also went into the back room with Siân and warbled a few notes up and down the scales. He emerged a few minutes later to the announcement that his voice range is that of a Top tenor. He was also surprised to find that he knew many of the Choir members
By coincidence both Maurice and Paul live near each other in Treetops, Portskewett
If you’re reading this and thinking about joining the choir, don’t be scared or nervous, you will be made very welcome and will not be pressured. It really is quite simple.
