Valentine’s night

From ‘The Libretto’ – February 2010

The Fund Raising Committee held a Valentine’s night on Friday, 12 February. It was an enjoyable evening with music by KETTLE O FISH. The turn-out was poor, with only 20 choir members attending the function. Please try and support the fund raising committee, they have many events planned. There will be themed nights, one of which will be V.E. DAY CELEBRATION NIGHT. Please remember that the funds raised by the committee are not just for the cruise but for the Choir fund in general.

Reflections of 2005

From ‘The Libretto’ – December 2005

2005 has been a good year for the choir. It’s been a year when we have had some new members who have embraced the choir with enthusiasm and dedication. We have given some excellent concerts and the spirit of goodwill and enjoyment has as always, prevailed. We have sung in some unusual venues; the National Museum of Wales; where we had the honour of being congratulated by the First Minister, Rhodri Morgan. He enjoyed our singing so much that we were asked to return last month for a repeat performance. Our excellent concert at St John’s Church in Newport coincided with Wales beating England in the run up to the Grand Slam. What a way to cheer our team on! Our Annual Concert was, as always a great success. The choir sang to a very high standard, although I cannot say the same of the artistes. I did not feel that their performance was of a calibre we are used to hearing in Caldicot. Nevertheless, that did not detract from the audience enjoyment. An outstanding concert at the Monmouth Festival in August once again established our position as one of the premier choirs in Wales. We also gave an excellent performance in the three choirs concert in September.

Sadly, not all our concerts have been to the usual high standard, namely at Monmouth a few weeks ago. This was solely due to poor attendance by choristers. It is such a shame when our standard is compromised by members ‘ apathy and lack of dedication. However, we must not dwell on negative thoughts and must look to the future. Let’s all start the new year with renewed hope and determination to make our choir the best it can be. We must all do our very best to attract and retain new members who will ensure the future is as bright as the present.

It is my pleasure to wish you all a peaceful and happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year. God Bless.
