Many men from Caldicot and surrounding areas come to the choir hall just to have a look and listen to us. We are delighted that many are so impressed that they come the following week to have another look and decide there and then that this is for them and take the first step and go into the back room with Siân for a first voice test. This is a simple up and down the scales exercise to see which range of the choir the voice best sits.
Such was the case with new chorister Colin Hart a few weeks ago. Colin is unfortunately wheelchair bound and had some trepidation at first but after a few words of encouragement and assurance that we could accommodate him, he took the test and emerged to be declared (declare ye this and let it be heard) that he had passed and would be joining the bottom basses.
Colin lives in Sudbrook and is a neighbour of choir treasurer and 2nd tenor Roger Matthews. Maybe they could be heard at the nearby Severn Bridge trying to drown out the noise of the traffic with Comrades in Arms? Congratulations, Colin and welcome to our choir.
The Choir is always keen to welcome visitors to its practice nights every Monday and Thursday at the Choir Hall in Mill Lane. There is no obligation, but if you’re male and over 18 you might be tempted to join us.
